The session was focused on building intergenerational Social Justice movement, and providing young women the skills they need to lead advocacy for change and be the voice of voiceless and the marginalized

As the heroes and sheroes of Liberia’s feminism movement age and gradually leave the stage, ActionAid Liberia has joined the Community Healthcare Initiatives in nurturing and mentoring young feminists in order to prepare with the necessary skills, tools, and advocacy strategies to enable them take over in the not too distance future.
On August 8, 2025, ActionAid Liberia’s Country director, Madam Elizabeth facilitated a one-day mentoring and coaching session at ActionAid’s at its office with the Next Gen Feminism Cohort 1.

The session was meant to pass hands-on skills and basic information on various human rights, social justices, and inequality issues locally and internationally and how they as young feminists can better prepare themselves to embrace the future to address equalities and be the voice of the voiceless, and stand up for the weak, vulnerable and most marginalized in society.

“Feminism is often misconstrued, and feminists are branded as group rude and uncontrolled women, which is totally untrue, but it’s a movement of both men and women who believe in championing the cost of social justice, advocating for the most vulnerable and marginalized by calling for actions that protect all persons to live their full potential regardless of who they are of their status in society.”  Madam Johnson Said.

Madam Elizabeth Gbah Johnson inspired the young feminists by ‘any of them could be like her and or become like any of those great women and men of Liberia and the world who led the feminism movement with greater impacts, but stress that compassion, selflessness, and strong adherence to the ten principles of feminism are key to such height.

The young feminists expressed their gratitude to ActionAid Liberia for providing them the space and impacting them and new skills and building their self-confidence well as enhancing their leadership and advocacy skills.

“Feminism for me it’s a movement, it’s not an NGO, and it’s not for an individual, but it’s for every because and it talks about justice, fairness and equality regardless of who you are and what you do.” Ada L. Bongay, said.

Ada praised the one-day session and went on sharing some of the lessons learned by saying, “my key takeaway from the session was where we got to understand that feminists are people who are respected, self-aware, and they are people who stand up for everybody.” Ada told the media.
Another young Feminist, who shared light on the takeaway from the session, expressed excitement about the fact that young feminists are being prepared and natured to take over.

“We learned a lot of things and what excite me the most is the fact that ActionAid Liberia, CHI and others are preparing us to be the next generation of feminism because those who are the heroes of feminism are aging.”

She then thanked ActionAid Liberia, Community Health Initiatives and partners for supporting the young people’s development in Liberia.

At least sixteen young women benefited from the one day session, all members of the Next Gen Feminism cohort one, an Initiative of the Community health Initiative.
