ActionAid Liberia Provides Major Support to Rural Women Structure, Reaches Inmates, Disabled Communities, and Schoolgirls in Grand Gedeh
In Continuation of Commemorating Year's Rural Women Day
As part of ongoing activities marking this year’s Rural Women’s Day, ActionAid Liberia has extended vital support to the Grand Gedeh Rural Women Network by making significant donations to girls and vulnerable women across Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
The support targeted several groups, including persons with disabilities, women inmates at the Zwedru Correctional Palace, and schoolgirls at the Dougbe River Presbyterian School in Glio Tarbo. The donation comprised both food and non-food items aimed at improving the well-being of women and girls in need.
Funding for the initiative was provided through NATPAH to the National Rural Women of Liberia, Grand Gedeh Chapter, in collaboration with the ActionAid Grand Gedeh sub-office.
The items donated to the disable community of Zwedru include 6 bags of rice, 1 tin of three-galls vegetable oil, 2 bags table salt, 1 bag of toile tissue, while the donation at Presbyterian School were 5 cartoons of sanitary pads, 1 cartoon of chlorides, a cartoon of bath soap, and 1 cartoon of klin power soap.
While the donation the women inmates at the Zwedru Correctional palac were 10 bags of 25 kg rice, 2 cartoons of sanitary pads, 1 tin of 6-gallons oil and a cartoon of crown vita cook cube.
Speaking during the donation ceremony on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Zwedru Correctional Palace, Madam Jesadea Barzon, President of the Grand Gedeh Chapter of the National Rural Women, said the initiative reflects the collective commitment of her organization and ActionAid Liberia to support women in all circumstances.
She called on authorities of the correctional facility to ensure that the items are used for their intended purpose, emphasizing that ActionAid Liberia, NATPAH, and the Rural Women structure remain united in their mission to uplift and empower women across the country regardless of their status or situation.
“With support from ActionAid Liberia, these are the little tokens we have brought base on your request when we came here the other day. Jesade Barzon told.
She went on further to add saying “You listed a lot of things that they wanted as women inmates, but we cannot do all, however we have brought these.” Madam Barzon told the women inmates and prison authorities during the donation.
She said the organization has no borders as such; the donation is just one of ActionAid Liberia many intervention areas.
“Every condition or every long rope people often say, has an end. Yeator said. “We just want you to know that whatever it takes or situation you find yourself in will one day come to an end, but we want you to please accept these items.”
“We are a social justice organization that supports and champions the costs of girls and women in vulnerable communities and conditions, and so this donation is just one of the many things that we do at ActionAid.” Yeator Domah said during the presentation.
Receiving the items, the Chief of operations at the correction palace who spoke on behalf of the Commander lauded the national Rural women Grand Gedeh chapter, ActionAid and NATPAH for the gesture and assured the items would be used for the intended purpose.
He described the donation as timely, and stressed that the items will go a long way not just for the women inmates, but in fostering lasting relationship between the three institutions.
