Highlights from the National Young Women and Girls Conference

We are excited to share our experience representing ActionAid Liberia at the National Young Women and Girls Conference, organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGSCP) in Kakata City. This two-day event at the BWI campus brought together 250 young women from Montserrado, Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa, RiverCess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, Lofa, and Gbarpolu, creating a vibrant atmosphere of empowerment and collaboration.

Day One: Inspiring Leadership and Advocacy The conference commenced with a powerful keynote address highlighting the significance of women’s rights and leadership. Following this, engaging workshops and panel discussions focused on advocacy, education, and community engagement. Participants from all eleven counties shared their stories, challenges, and successes, fostering a strong sense of unity and purpose.

Day Two: Building Skills and Networks; The second day was dedicated to skill-building sessions where young women learned about effective communication, project management, and digital literacy. These workshops aimed to equip participants with essential tools to become leaders in their communities. Networking opportunities allowed attendees to connect with mentors and peers, forging lasting bonds and support systems.

A Platform for Change All activities conducted over the two days aligned with ActionAid Liberia’s key priorities, particularly addressing structural and systemic gender-based violence against women, girls, and other marginalized groups. The conference emphasized the critical role young women from Montserrado, Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Bassa, River Cess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Maryland, Lofa, and Gbarpolu play in driving social change. By providing a space for dialogue and learning, the event empowered participants to advocate for their rights and contribute to their communities’ development, aligning with Pillar Four of the ARREST agenda focused on education.

We are proud to have been part of this transformative event and eagerly anticipate the positive impact these young women from all eleven counties will make in their communities.

In conclusion, the National Young Women and Girls Conference served as a fundamental moment for participants, fostering empowerment and collaboration among young women from diverse backgrounds. The skills gained and connections made during this event will undoubtedly ripple through their communities, inspiring change and resilience. As these young leaders return home, they carry with them not only the knowledge and tools necessary for advocacy but also a renewed sense of purpose and solidarity.

ActionAid Liberia remains committed to supporting their journeys, and we look forward to witnessing the positive transformations they will bring about. Together, we can continue to champion women’s rights and pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future
